Crysis what is pom

Check out th link in my sig for the TK mod. Thats using X-Ray 1. Now imagine if I was to spend the same amount of time optimising X-Ray 1. Please tell me you didn't just say that.. Hell no I have to disagree with you. There are quite a few areas where Metro has Crysis trumped, among those being the detail and quality of the textures, and the lighting and shadows. Look at this screen shot. The "very high" setting as far as I know, is still bugged on both Nvidia and ATI hardware and it doesn't look the way it's supposed to, so I don't use it.

Metro only runs like crap if you enable depth of field. I've seen framerates of over down to the low 40s in this game.. There's always lots of room for optimization. Heck, look at the hundreds of mods for Crysis that not only make the game look better, but run faster as well! You sound very British :D. I kinda agree with both of you. Although overall I would say Crytek are a bit better at optimizing their games since I can play Crysis and Warhead on my P4 vs Metro requiring dual core and a better GPU than I have, Crytek didn't exactly fix all the performance problems with Crysis.

Where I really lean toward Crytek is they are using cutting edge methods to optimize CryENGINE 3 even further for Crysis 2, whereas GSC is going the opposite direction, making games with a very little changed engine and adding significantly more graphic quality than their previous titles.

Thus the sys reqs for GSC games is going up and up, while Crytek game reqs are actually going down a bit according to what they tell us. It remains to be seen of course what kind of rig Crysis 2 will run on. That looks really good. Wish I could try it out, but crysis crashes everytime I change a setting. I have 1. Any help? The most amazing thing about Crysis is the massive, seamless environments.

It was truly ground breaking in that aspect, as I can't recall any FPS before that that allowed such a large sandbox with that kind of detail and quality. I'm leery of so called "optimizations," because typically, that means cutting down the graphics. In fact, the footage I've seen of Crysis 2 doesn't look nearly as impressive as the original Crysis..

I'm hoping that footage came from the console version and not the PC version.. He used too much sharpening.. On a whim, I decided to use the 32 bit exe for Crysis, and was surprised at how better the performance was compared to the 64 bit exe. It could be jerky at times for no apparent reason, and quickly turning the mouse in a different direction results in a catastrophic drop in framerate for about 1 second until it recovers.

Switching over to the 32 bit exe however seems to have remedied these problems. The 64 bit exe has a lot more drops in the amount of GPU activity than the 32 bit exe, which more or less remains quite steady. I guess I really shouldn't be surprised by this.

I doubt Crytek optimized the 64 bit exe properly to overcome innate performance issues associated with using 64 bit code, which accounts for it's lackluster performance compared to the 32 bit exe.. Just some food for thought, as there's always been speculation as to whether one should use the 32 or 64 bit exe :. Do you have any benchmarks or tests to support your claim? I've never seen Crysis use more than 1. A lot of people aren't aware of that.

Many have been skeptical about what's been shown so far, but I'm sure it's likely console footage, and compressed for net streaming too. I have to disagree with you. Face textures in Metro are comparable to those in Stalker, not really any steps forward there. While character models are nice, observe the world around you. Floor and wall textures in Metro are very soupy, and when you do see it, look at the vines popping through in tunnels, their 1D cardboard cutouts, lol :D Its not my voice in the vids either, thats Balious ; I kinda agree with both of you.

Crysis 2 is less graphically impressive by a significant margin compared to Crysis. Watch some videos, many textures in Crysis 2 are very flat without even bump mapping. This is because Crysis 2 is being designed to run on consoles  To try and make up for the terrible textures loads of physics stuff has been plumped in to make Crysis 2 seem more demanding, but rest assured the only thing bringing systems to their knees will be excessive physics not because Crysis 2 is a graphical masterpiece.

Them be some photo-realistic screenshots, for the most part . It'll likely use Havoc as its being designed for consoles. Physx will probably be tacked on somewhere and it'll be as useless as it is everywhere else. This is because Crysis 2 is being designed to run on consoles. That remains to be seen.

Like I said you can't base that assessment on videos that are likely from the console version and compressed for net streaming. It's rather premature to say really. CryTek have assured us long ago when the talk of console versions came up that the PC version would get separate development. What you're not factoring in is the raw pre-rendered textures can easily be compressed more for the console versions, and less for the PC version. So you can scoff now, but you really don't know enough yet to be as skeptical as you're sounding.

Anyways, don't know if I want to participate in this thread anymore. The huge pics are making having to scroll through the text box a PITA! Whatever, it is confirmed that nanosuit 2. I bet you that Crysis 2 will not have burst or single shot selector. User Info: AlleRacing.

Refresh my memory, what is POM? Paralax Occlusion Mapping, it makes it look like textures are popping up. Like, a texture with rocks makes each rock a individual object, having shaders and everything.

Power to the people! Does anybody ag? Sorry, I meant agree. POM is great, but when I got my new monitor and had to run the game at x to keep it looking crisp and not crap and blurry, POM was one of the first things to go from my very high config.

If you can spare the frames per second, it's awesome, but it's a relatively small effect and, considering it takes up FPS in POM affected areas, the final result didn't justify the performance drop. Because ghosts are just trying to keep a brother down. Check your undead privilege ecto-scum. User Info: bbentley If you believe your item has been removed by mistake, please contact Steam Support.
